I heartily recommend this property to anyone considering a holiday with family or friends. One would be hard pressed to find a better equipped house, in a better location or with better facilities, both indoor and out. Property description spot on, owners extremely helpful and efficient, so holiday with confidence.

Our group of friends and family have holidayed many times before, but our stay at Chapeau rates as one of the best for so many reasons. Chapeau is beautifully situated - quiet, yet close enough to the village to walk to, through the walnut groves. We ate twice at the local restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. There was plenty to do and see in the area, particularly the town of Sarlat and the chateau of Hautefort. Caroline and Jonathan could not have been more helpful, before and during our stay, and this definitely helped the smooth running of the holiday. Chapeau is full of character and it was a joy to get up early, watch the sunrise, and look out over the lake, watching all the wildlife. The pool and gardens were excellent and the children adored the trampoline ! We enjoyed many evenings eating outside and the barbeque and pool house were much used. I would have no hesitation in recommending Chapeau, as well as Caroline and Jonathan, to anyone considering a stay in this lovely part of France.

Chapeau was ideally suited for our family group (11 in total ages ranging from 20 months to mid seventies) and was accurately described in all the information we received. The location was both convenient and peaceful - a rare combination - and the comprehensive facilities and accommodation could scarcely have been bettered. Local shopping and restaurants were all good. Fine weather meant the pool and the surrounding countryside provided most of what we needed but the games room was also a star attraction. Jonathan and Caroline could not have been more welcoming or more helpful. Highly recommended.

The house was booked to celebrate a Ruby Wedding Anniversary and a 'Big Birthday' and was ideal for both occasions. Our family group ranged in aged from 2 - 70 and there was something for everyone at Chapeau. The house was very clean and well maintained and the owners were so welcoming and made us feel very much at home. For us the best part was the total privacy and quietness of the property linked with the excellent provision of so many on-site facilities that catered for all age groups, the best being the swimming pool. We were a group of 10 and were amazed at the provision of so much crockery, pots and pans etc for both indoor and outdoor catering. Space in our luggage would have been saved had we realised there was such an excellent selection of childrens' toys, games, DVDs and video, plus the adult library. We were so enchanted with Chapeau that on most days we stayed there as the facilities were really marvellous. We used the restaurant in the main street in the village and found it good. The boulangerie was used daily and was excellent. The village tennis court was good. The Chapeau TV was much appreciated as it had English BBC so we were able to keep up with Wimbledon and the Welsh S4C to follow the Lions Tour of S Africa. We would definitely recommend this to family and friends and have already passed on details to some people. We would love to visit again with our family group.

Absolutely Fabulous !! Chapeau was better than we could have imagined..even though the wealth of photos on the website give an excellent impression. It is set in a glorious location which is tranquil yet within easy reach of all we needed including a wonderful restaurant, boulangerie and supermarket. Perfect ! Caroline and John have thought of everything. The house is amazingly well equipped, a real home from home. We loved everything about it and found it hard to tear ourselves away to do the sight seeing we had planned ! We did venture out on a few occasions and loved nearby Hautefort. Further afield we really loved Brantome, Montignac, (the market here is very good) and the countryside nearby. Four of our group went canoeing from Cherveix Cubas one day and had enormous fun ! There were 12 of us, ages ranging from 12 to 58, and at no time did anyone say they were bored ! To keep this number of people happy is no mean feat ! During our days at the house we played games, cycled, swam in the fabulous pool, sunbathed, ate and drank excessively enjoying the company of friends and family enormously. Yet if solitude was required, there was always a space where you could sit quietly and read, enjoy spectacular views, or contemplate life, the universe, and everything ! Although not one of us wanted to leave on our last day we were all extremely relaxed, stress free and happy, just what you need from a holiday. One of our very best EVER !! We would definitely love to return.

The House and grounds are lovely and every need has been catered for. We were a party ranging from 18 months to 70 years old and our group used just about all of the facilities from the huge trampoline to the lovely pool area and of course the great added bonus of your own private fishing lake. Caroline and John were very helpful and informative. Lovely seating areas including a covered area which we needed when the weather was not so good. The two kitchens and indoor and outdoor table tennis were also a bonus. Great place to stay.

There's not much to add - we too had a wonderful holiday in a beautiful house, location... with great owners. Our party of 11 ranged from 2yrs to 60; two are anglers who caught various sorts of fish in the lake, two are golfers, who are most grateful to Caroline for her research into nearby courses; all of us used the many facilities of the house, toured the local area, generally had an absolutely lovely time. Caroline and Jonathan provide a huge range of literature which was really useful in deciding 'what shall we do today'. We had a 60th birthday party half way through and it was just about our best holiday ever, and we do these big family get-togethers on a regular basis. Umm, quite a bit to add actually!

Two wonderful weeks at Chapeau that will stay forever in our memories. The house has so much character and, you have furnished it beautifully. Chapeau is equipped for an army! It is the perfect retreat with a superb feeling of privacy. We particularly appreciated the pool, indoor and outdoor table tennis, badminton, trampoline, piano and all of the great sitting out areas; we had a different one for each time of day. On hot days there was plenty of shade under the trees and sun loungers in the garden as well as by the pool. There were so many places for us to spread out to read a book or have a siesta! We particularly enjoyed the evening sun and sunset by the pool. It was great to have use of the bicycles and our daughters enjoyed trying out some fishing for the first time in your lake. We also enjoyed bird watching and our morning walk to the boulangerie for fresh bread. We will definitely recommend Chapeau to family and friends.

Our party of 12 enjoyed an excellent holiday at Chapeau – everything was as described; and more. The owners were helpful and attentive throughout, friendly and always contactable if we needed them for any advice (like where best to go canoeing!). The house was very spacious, pool excellent, facilities more than enough. The local village has all the essentials (morning bread etc) and nearby Hautefort (10 mins by car) provided all the main shopping. I have to admit, most of the time we stayed around the house and pool having BBQs rather than going anywhere – very relaxing. One nice touch – the BBQ area has two alternatives, covered and open – OK for all weather variations. The house book is very complete and DO read it when you're there because most questions you may have will most likely have answers there. We'd go again and certainly recommend it to our friends.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, partly because we had such good weather but mainly because we were able to take advantage of all of the facilities you provided. We were outdoors most of the time and used the swimming pool every day with the swings, trampoline, table tennis, badminton and boules de petanque all being used as well. Fishing in the lake was an extra interest. When it was too hot to be outside the many toys helped to keep the youngsters quiet and the piano and vast library of books were there in reserve if needed. The cooking and washing facilities were well up to the challenge of coping with our party of 6 adults and 4 young children and the village bakery and mini market, together with the Hautefort shops, easily provided all our catering needs. It was a good centre for exploring the Dordogne area. All in all, one of our best holidays.

I have been going on holiday to Europe for 15 yrs, usually renting a large house in France or Italy for 9 or more people from our extended family, and this was just the best of all that I have stayed at. Firstly, the area is magic; lovely château and gardens at Hautefort, markets in the villages most days, superb provincial restaurants (and some grander ones if you like), the Dordogne and Lascaux are nearby and the immediate area is uncrowded, green and idyllic. Second, the house is wonderful, loads of space for 13 indeed. The pool is superb, then there is the lake, the gardens, the views! Third and best of all, John and Caroline are perfect hosts. Our travel to Bergerac was all messed up and we arrived cross and tired – to find beer in the fridge, wine on the table and John full of good humour and advice. Just a delight – and we will be back.
